Thank you for getting the cookie dough money turned in last week. We took out the 45% cut that the students get, and it looks like several students will have a nice little boost for their field trip accounts. With the cookie dough behind us, I really hate to drop yet another fundraiser into your lap, but I’d like to give everyone a heads-up that our Fund Run is right around the corner – at the end of September. This fundraiser can potentially bring in a nice tidy sum towards field trip accounts, a whopping 67% of pledges!! Once both of these fundraisers are behind us, I will be sending out a student account balance statement. The pick-up day for cookie dough is scheduled for . I will update if it is rescheduled for some reason. You should find progress reports in the blue folders today. Please note that this is “progress,” not a final grade. There will be many more assignments populating into ATLAS before final grades are calculated. However, if there are assignments in there currently that reflect a very low grade, students should be actively seeking a REDO on that assignment. They can resubmit one assignment in each category for full credit. Math unit tests and written essays can routinely be resubmitted for full credit. They should not wait until the end of the quarter to take care of this, as there will be a cut off date. There is a POW problem going home today and it is DUE NEXT MONDAY. The POW’s are factored into the overall math grade and should be taken seriously. The students can ask for guidance at any time during the week, if they are struggling. You can expect one every other week. This week we will finish Unit 1 in math and test Wednesday. We will be reviewing the unit on Tuesday in preparation for the test. The unit tests account for 40% of their math grade, so should be taken seriously. This week we will begin Unit 2, with a focus on division. Next week, I will begin scheduling conferences. If you need special consideration, please let me know as soon as possible so that I can try to accommodate your choice. In reading, our immigration unit continues with reading and completing skill work in our reading journals. A real life experience can help bring a novel to life, so I am seeking someone who might have a story to tell. If you or anyone you know has a personal refugee story they would be willing to share, please let me know. For those of you who plan on chaperoning our field trips, fingerprinting is a requirement of the district. If you have already undergone this process in the past, you do not need to worry about it. Our first field trip is right around the corner September 28th. Please have the permission slip and money returned no later than September 24th. If you would like to chaperone on this trip, please let me know. You would have to follow the bus, since the school buses will only be able to accommodate students and teachers. If you have any questions or concerns, I can be reached at: school (248-7220), cell (269-0760) or email (firstname.lastname@example.org). Have a wonderful week!
